Instagram Engagement Rate Calculator: check your score

Your Instagram engagement rate is the fastest read on how healthy your account is. It cuts past follower count to the question brands care about: when you post, how many people actually respond? A strong rate opens brand-deal conversations a big follower count alone will not.

Add your followers, plus the likes, comments and saves a normal post pulls in. You get your rate as a percentage, a verdict from poor to excellent, and how you stack up against others in your niche.

How it works

1Enter your followers

Use your current follower count. The rate is interactions divided by this number, so keep it accurate.

2Average your interactions

Take likes, comments and saves across your last six to ten posts. Saves count, since they signal content people want to keep.

3See your score and rank

A percentage, a poor-to-excellent verdict, and a comparison against the average for your niche.

How Instagram engagement rate works

The rate is likes plus comments plus saves, divided by your follower count, times 100. So a post with 900 likes, 60 comments and 40 saves on 25,000 followers gives a 4 percent engagement rate. Saves are worth tracking because Instagram treats them as a strong quality signal, and so do brands.

On Indian Instagram, under 1% is poor, 1 to 2% is below average, 2 to 3.5% is average, 3.5 to 6% is good, and above 6% is excellent. Nano and micro accounts sit at the higher end of these because their audiences are closer and more responsive.

Niche moves the line. A food or parenting account naturally engages more than a finance or tech one, so we compare your rate to the average for the niche you select rather than to a single number that ignores what you post about.

Lifting your Instagram engagement

Lead with reels and carousels. Both pull more comments and saves than a single photo, and saves are the interaction that moves your rate and your reach the most. A carousel that teaches something gets saved and shared long after you post it.

End captions with a genuine question. Not request a comment, but something a reader has an opinion on. Replies in the first hour tell Instagram the post is worth showing to more people, which lifts both engagement and reach together.

Never buy followers. It is the single fastest way to wreck your engagement rate, since fake accounts inflate the denominator and never interact. Brands run your numbers through audit tools and a sudden follower spike with flat engagement is an instant red flag.
